PGC XC Camp Contest Grid. One of the first skills the new cross country and contest pilot has to learn is staging a tight grid. This facilitates a speedy launch of all ships when soaring conditions are optimal.

In addition to single-place privately owned gliders, the camp also utilized PGC two-place trainers. 'New' cross country pilots in the front seat are mentored by an experienced XC pilot in the back.

The 'Pilots Meeting' is also an important part of cross country events. Contest organizers provide final course selections, weather, and safety information.

Doug Jacobs, a World and National Soaring Champion, has a great sense of humor. Doug is telling Bob Lacovara that Bob's average speed around the race course was below the stall speed of the glider.
