The Philadelphia Glider Council (PGC) is one of the premier soaring organizations in North America. This unique aviation resource is located just north of the Philadelphia metro area and serves soaring enthusiasts and the general public in the surrounding tri-state region.
Club resources include a 138 acre turf airport, a fleet of seven modern sailplanes for basic and advanced training, two powerful glider towplanes, hangers for all equipment, a club house with computer and training facilities, a full-time caretaker, and a picnic and play area for visiting family members.
The club field is located in Hilltown, Pennsylvania, in the heart of historic Bucks County. Founded in 1941, PGC is one of the oldest soaring clubs in the United States.
Student training is a central part of the PGC mission. Each season, a dedicated cadre of instructors provides basic flight instruction for thirty students. About ten of these complete training during the season and go on to pass the FAA tests required to get their wings! All student instruction and equipment usage is free - students just have to pay yearly membership and tow fees. PGC also supports several programs to reduce or eliminate student fees, and allows the Civil Air Patrol to use the airport to conduct student flight operations.
In addition to basic training, PGC also hosts advanced cross-country soaring camps conducted by national and world soaring champions. PGC racing pilots also participate in SSA regional and national championships, the inter-club Governor's Cup competition, and the world On-Line Contest (OLC).
Established as a not-for-profit soaring club, the facility and equipment is owned and operated by club members on a cooperative basis. PGC has 110 active members, including 12 tow pilots and 12 glider flight instructors. The fleet consists of 2 tow planes, 7 club gliders, and 38 privately owned gliders.
The club operates most weekends and some weekdays between April and October. We also operate on some of the milder days through the winter. Please use the contact information below or in the 'Join PGC' section to inquire about a glider Aeronautical Orientation Flight or club membership. You can also use the live web cam below to verify we are flying if you just want to come out to the field.
The Soaring Video following will give you some insight into the sights and sounds you will have during a glider flight. (You will probably need a high-speed connection to view.) C'mon out and take an AOF or buy a 'gift' certificate for a flight to give someone a special aviation experience !!!
